Welcome to the Brazilian Zouk Classes with Juanma and Caroline! Beginners and drop-in always welcome!!
Brazilian Zouk is a beautiful, sensual partner dance that anyone can learn and that will help you improve your social dance skills. Anyone who dances it will tell you, that it is much more than a dance, it is a way of relaxing, meeting new people, making friends, and discovering yourself. When you join Zouk classes, you become a part of the Zouk family, and you are most welcome!
The classes are twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays! We recommend that you follow classes twice a week but it is also possible to join just once a week.
Mondays in Undergrunden, Kulturhuset Islands Brygge:
• 20:00-21:00 Zouk Level 1
• 21:00-22:00 Zouk Level 2
Thursdays in Dansekapellet:
• 20:00-21:00 Zouk Level 1
• 21:00-22:00 Zouk Level 2
This is where you get strong basics. You will learn all the basic steps of the Brazilian Zouk, and you will learn how to build up your dance with variations of these. You will learn the dynamics and the groove of the Brazilian Zouk and how to lead/follow in the dance. You will develop your skills in connection, and you will also train body and space awareness. In Level 1, you will learn to be a good social dancer!
We recommend that you start on this level and continue taking it regularly for minimum 1-2 years. When you have mastered Level 1, you can talk to the teacher about also joining Level 2. Mastering the basics are what will make you a great dancer!
Sign up with or without a partner!
When you have taken Level 1 for 1-2 years and gotten approval from the teacher, you can join Level 2. On Level 2 we will dive deeper into technique for more complicated movements like body isolations and "head movements". You will learn more advanced ways to connect the basics, and be introduced to more intricate musicality and learn how to be creative in your dance. You will also be introduced to some differences within the styles of Zouk and to differentiate them (Traditional/Rio style, Lambazouk, Neozouk, Flow Zouk, RnBzouk, Soulzouk, etc.) in relation to the music.
Students of Level 2 are encouraged to continue taking Level 1 classes to continue improving their basics. Students can continue on Level 2 for 1-2 years before moving on to the next level.

Brazilian Zouk is a partner dance that is growing all over the world at the moment. It has only been in Europe now for about 20 years, and it is constantly growing and evolving. Traditionally, it was danced to Zouk music from the Caribbean, but now it can be danced to a variety of music, including R&B, pop, hip hop, and Kizomba, which makes it very versatile. Brazilian Zouk is known for its flowing, expressive and sensual movements. It is a dance with focus on trust and connection between the dancers, which can be tactile (connecting through touch), visual (connecting by looking at one another) or both at the same time. Both closed and open embrace are used in the dance, and sometimes the dancers also dance without physical connection.
Caroline (DK) has many years of experience in dance, but her favorite dance is Brazilian Zouk. She dances and teaches Brazilian Zouk, High Heels, Modern, Modern jazz, Jazz, Contemporary, Improvisation and Ballet. She has been teaching and organizing Zouk in Copenhagen since 2014. She is currently finishing a Bachelor in teaching dance at the Amsterdam School of the Arts (AHK). She has taught Zouk at international congresses, for example Berlin Zouk Congress, Amsterdam Zouk Congress, St. Valentine’s Dance Weekend, Copenhagen Kizomba Royal Festival and has worked with internationally acclaimed artists artists like Ailton Silva, Eric Louw, William Dos Santos, Felipe Melo, Willem Engel and Adilio Porto.
Juanma (AR) started dancing in 2010. He is born and raised in Argentina, where he has played an important role in developing the Zouk scene, teaching Lambazouk, Zouk, and organizing social events. His favorite dance is Brazilian Zouk, but he also teaches LambaZouk, Bachata Sensual and Salsa (LA style). He also has training in many other dances, including hip hop, breakdance, afro, contemporary, ballet, mambo, tango, samba de gafieira, and samba funkeado.
Private classes are the best way to quickly improve. If you want to take private classes to quickly improve your dance, book yours today on http://www.zonendans.dk/privat-timer.
